In a village devoted to dance, Nrityagram dancers—all women—complement their intensive training with literature, Sanskrit, yoga, meditation, and martial arts. The result is a troupe expertly channeling the powerful imagery, compelling physicality, and emotional honesty of Odissi dance, a classical Indian form dating back 2,000 years. To the intoxicating rhythms of traditional music, the ensemble embodies a moving meditation on ecstasy and longing.
